Spring Forward

by B.C. Raines on 03/15/17

Repost: March 2015

Spring forward. Fall back...It’s the only way I can keep up with which way to change the clock to accommodate the Daylight Savings and Standard time changes. I know, it’s elementary but hey it works for me. In the spring, I move the clock forward by one hour (Spring forward) and in the fall, I move the clock back by one hour (Fall back). You see: Spring forward. Fall back.

Just like we moved our clocks forward this past weekend, I challenge you to also spring forward in this season of your life. Were there any dreams considered during the fall and winter seasons of your life? What idea(s) did you ponder during these seasons?  Any business or personal goals that you’d like to reach this year? Spring is a perfect time to move forward and pursue any if not all of these new adventures.

Think about it…Spring is the season of new beginnings. During this season we see the return of green grass, flowers blooming, trees budding and for many, it is the return of the sun’s bright rays after the gloomy and dark skies of winter. It is also the prelude to the long awaited sunny and fun-filled days of summer.

So Spring Forward. ..It’s your season to move into new beginnings.

“I” In The Middle

by B.C. Raines on 02/28/17

When “I” am the focus, there is usually chaos, confusion and disappointment. Have you noticed that a lot of self-centered words have the letter “I” in the center of the word? Words like pride, sin, grief and pain.

I want to challenge you to take the focus off of you, the “I”. This life shouldn’t be all about you…it should be about you serving others, being good to others, looking out for others, etc. Just think, if we all adopted the serving others mindset, there would be nobody looking out for themselves. Everybody would be looking out for the other person which ultimately means a whole lot of people would be looking out for you.

Ummm, I’m just thinking…Would the crime rate would decrease? Would the divorce rate decrease? Would cruelty to others diminish greatly? Would relationships flourish? Would our hungry neighbors have food to eat? Could we truly celebrate each other's successes? Would there be more trust within our communities, states and even among the nations?

Wow, that sounds like an awesome place to live. So what part are you playing to help develop this awesome place? Is your “I” in middle? If so, is that best position for it? Is that the best position for you?

Love

by B.C. Raines on 02/21/17

What is love?  Merriman-Webster’s Dictionary includes this one definition: "unselfish loyal and benevolent concern for the good of another". I have also read and heard about the following attributes of love:

It protects. It trusts. It hopes. It perseveres. It never fails.  It is patient. It is kind. It delights in truth. It does not envy. It does not boast nor is it proud. It is not rude, self-seeking, easily angered nor does it keep a record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil.

Let us remember to love ourselves and each other in all that we do, say and think. I wonder what a different world this would be if we truly lived our lives showing “unselfish loyal and benevolent concern for the good of another” in every area of our lives.

My challenge to each of us: with each action, word, thought—ask, Is this showing unselfish, loyal and benevolent concern for the good of another? If the answer is no: do, say or think something that is. If yes, continue and repeat. Habits are developed by continually repeating our actions… and what a good habit to develop…. demonstrating love (unselfish, loyal and benevolent concern for the good of another) in every aspect of our lives.

Happy Valentine’s To You

by B.C. Raines on 02/14/17

Happy Valentine’s to you! Today maybe you will receive an external token expression of someone else’s love, appreciation and affection and maybe you won’t. But please don’t base your value, your internal beauty and your self-worth on these external token(s) given. Whatever you receive from someone else today will never be worth more than what you give yourself…YOU!!!!!!!
